The Procedure:
  1. Asses initial diagnostic or referral findings
  2. Review the pertinent hitory
  3. Provide patient education
  4. Place the speculum to provide optimal visualization of the lesion
  5. Make physical and mechanical adjustments to operate the colposcope
  6. Asses the gross appearance of the cervix, vagina and vulva
  7. Perform Pap screening; obtaining and preserving specimens correctly
  8. Apply solutions
  9. Visualize in a systematic fashion the lower genital tract
  10. Identify areas for biopsy
  11. Perform biopsies and ensure hemostasis
  12. Have a documentation and follow-up system
  13. Plan appropriate treatment and long term management
